It's a 10gal tank, have not decided on the fish yet but it's freshwater and I wanted to add a submerged pump to circulate the water but I've got a few questions.

Is it ok to put a water pump in a 10gal freshwater tank to circulate the water?

The pump is a Beckett M200AUL 200gph pump with a little knob to let me block the flow down to almost nothing.

Would it hurt the fish? (undecided on what kind yet..) and what's the proper placment? I heard it should be on the bottom aiming up at the top of the other side of the tank?

Thanks for you're time :)

(btw, first post woo :D )

Hi there, welcome to the forums !!

Im not sure a normal pump would be ideal, because you wont be able to place it easy using sucker pads, that you normally get. If you got a power head cheap it has a guard on it to stop sucking up fish etc, and is easy to stick onto the side of the glass with the sucker pads and move around to get the best flow in the water.

Are you going to have a filter as well ?, because if you do you wont need the pump.

Yeah I have a filter, it's one of those low flow/noise type ones that hang on the back of the tank. I wanted the pump to provide some current in the tank. It has a grill so no fish will get sucked up inside.

Don't worry about the flow. That is enough for the tank. You can add it if you want.

You don't need it but it won't hurt anything if you add it. Some fish like extra current to swim against, and it can make plants (or fake plants) wave around and look more attractive.

Unless you're going to have a male betta, in which case you probably don't want to use it because they don't like current.
