Hello! this is my first post on this forum, but I've used a couple of others. So hopefully I can do things 'right'. Thought I'd give you guys a try as I'm stumped and I've not really had a lot of helpful input from other places.

Ok a bit of history. Basically, to do this quickly and simply. I think some corys I added to my tank about three months ago brought fin rot with them, despite seeming fine and aside from the one that died, I still have the other and he's doing great.

Anyway, the other fish since almost immediately after adding the corys got fin rot. I did used to have an albino cory but that was anihiliated very rapidly in maybe two days of adding the others. I euthanised him because it totally whiped out its tail fin and then turned part of its body red - thought it was the fairest thing to do as he would have otherwise died slowly and painfully.... I think, it looked very painful. I might have a picture of him post-euthanasia actually. Not very nice though, sorry. He'd been dead a while in this picture. Please don't look if it will upset you. I used clove oil to euthanise him, its not gorey or anything, just quite horrible.

I should probably state what is in the tank:

two angel fish - almost fully grown, depending on how big they want to get.
one gold gouramis - female and doesn't bully anyone - about 4/5 inches.
three peppered corys (I added another two to make friends with my remaining one when the water seemed to clear up).
three neon tetras.
one sailfin pleco - currently about 7 inches... watch this space eh?

Of these fish, only the two angel fish and the pleco have had any symptons. These were mainly white edges to their fins and raggedy, missing parts and the pleco has a couple of pin pricks. They were still eating and acting alright.

I treated with myxazin (broad spectrum antibiotic) and it cleared up. During this time I was doing tons of water changes too (although parameters were fine). However, then I went away for a week and symptons returned.

So I first upped the water changes to see if they could sort it out on their won. But after about a week and a half they didn't so I treated again with the same stuff.

Now, just one of the angel fish - the submissive of the two (could be bullying but I am not convinced) still has lesser symptons so I think/hope he's just fighting it off on his own. However, my pleco is my main concern. He's getting worse and worse by the day! Here is a picture of his tail about a week ago. you can also see damage on his other fins too.

I do regular water changes. My parameters are fine. Nitrates around 10. No nitrites or ammonia. PH neutral. temp sticks around25/26 degrees centigrade.

I don't usually use anything in/on my tank except decholorinator - no salt or anything. Although over the last week I've tried easy-life which has made the other fish more vibrant and my picky angel fish eat more but hasn't helped the finrot. I added it thinking that maybe it would encourage the pleco to fight it off on his own - maybe give him a bit of a helping hand but it hasn't really.

So, does anyone know of how I might sort this out? Why would it be that this fish in particular is so bad? (and possibly one other). I've ruled out bullying because he's the bullyer, and they stay well out of his way. Also, I doubt its errosion because of the attack on all of his fins. I just don't know what it could be. Also, I'm quite convinced it's fin rot as I can't see any signs of it being anything else but I'm open to suggestion. I was thinking I maybe have a superbug going on, that's immune to antibiotics... that would be fun, if it weren't for suffering fish.

Phew, sorry this is rather long, but I thought it best to try to include as much as I could think of as I've not posted before. I'd appreciate any help but I understand it can be tricky when you can't actually see the fish. Hopefully the pictures will help though.

here is a picture of my tank... just coz

It sounds like you're doing everything right.

I suspect you have some kind of bacteria that wasn't fully wiped out by the Myaxin. You could try Interpret Antifungus and Finrot, which sounds like it's more targeted to the diseases you're seeing.

I have to say, it's unusual to have recurring finrot when you do regular water changes and have a good temperature. It might possibly be stress caused by the angels fighting.

Hi! Thanks for your reply. I think I'll give the interpet stuff a go.

It is likely I think that any damage on the angels is from fighting. However! Some slight good news, the smaller angel that has had fin rot longer seems to be getting much better. He's almost back to normal (aside from a bit of regrowing to do). so I'm quite convinced that he'll do ok.... maybe.

Thanks again for your thoughts.
