My cockatoo cichlid is sick... so yesterday I did a 40-50% water change and gave the tank a good vaccum. When I re-filled the tank I checked the water temp with each bucket...the first two everything was fine...the third bucket I poored the water in and immediately one of my bronchis corys floated to the top DEAD! I panicked, checked the water temp and the thermometer fell apart in my hands! The f**'in thing was broken the whole time. I thought I was going to lose all my fish so I drained some the water from my tank and re-filled it again using a different thermometer. I don't know what happened exactly but I think the water was too cold and when I poored it in the cory was directly beneath it causing a temp shock.

I cried for hours I was so upset (I am far too sensitive) and my poor boyfriend had this romantic evening planned which needless to say was ruined... he was beside himself because he didn't understand and can't handle a crying woman. lol.

What a disaster! My cockatoo is still alive but he isn't looking well...

Thanks guys! I burried him next to my rose bush today. Luckily the thermometer didn't crack, it just slipped down out of its holder and the holder was cracked (so the degree measurements weren't accurate).

I hope my cockatoo makes it (his name is Michealangelo) I am really worried. It definitely is a bacterial infection, probably internal. Hasn't eaten in almost three days. I got some real good antibiotics today. Hopefully it works...Or else watch out for my next obiturary...

I hope all goes well with him...
don't feel bad, I had an african dwarf frog once, and I woke up with it floating on top, so I moved it around a little to make sure it was dead...and it wouldn't move, so I flushed it...and then it started frantically swimming...
I was very sad...
it's not your fault about the water..good luck!

Sorry for your loss.
We all make mistakes. Believe me I've made tons! (I can't count how many times I've overflowed a 5 gal tank when re-filling....... usually after doong my 55 gal, 44 gal & 37 gal; the 5 fills so much quicker ya know, lol).

Best of luck with your sick one.
