I got Ich!

#1
Okay, in my 37g, I have found ich. I think it just appeared today as I did not see anything yesterday. I have raised the temperature to 80.* Since all we have is iodined salt, I have to go to to my LFS to get aquarium salt. Is there anything I am missing? Should I move the fish without ich to my 25g (BN pleco, 1 angelfish, 1 bolivian ram)?

P.S. This is my first time ever getting ich.

Up the temp to 84 tomorrow. Since you have to go to the LFS try getting some real medications. I've had nothing but success with copper safe and quick cure. Use the copper safe if you have scaless fish, and remove any snails or other inverts you want to live through treatment.

Salt works too, but sorry with todays medications and what we know about treating fish. Other meds are available that work better and are less stressful on the fish and their water quality.

I just went thru having Ich for the first time in my tank. I used the salt/heat treatment. The cycle is almost complete. Fish all seem to be handling the treatment fine, including the white cloud. In a couple days I will begin water changes to reduce the salt and lowering the temp. This treatment, this time, is a success IMO.

Dont' put the salt crystals directly in the tank. A couple sites I've read said not to add more than 1 TBLS every four hours. Disolve it in some tank water first and the pour it in slowly over the course a few hours.

Just an FYI, a coworker is trying to treat ich with salt right now and isn't having much luck. I don't think she's added the recommened amount and she hasn't gotten the temp above 81 though.

I had quite a bit of success with the salt treatment. The Ich was totally gone in about 3 weeks and I didn't lose any fish. I've also had success using CopperSafe, but I couldn't use it in my 90g because of the Clown Loaches. I believe my temp was about 85 degrees.

I added half the dosage of salt one day and then the other half the next day and didn't have any trouble. But then, I may have been lucky.

I wish you the best of luck getting rid of the Ich

Someone please correct me if I"m wrong...but the average recommended dosage seems to be about 4 - 5 tablespoons per 5 gallons? And there's 3 teaspoons in a Tablespoon so that's 1 teaspoon every hour for about 22 hours...??

I think I'd just add half today and the other half tomorrow like PC said. :)
