Hello everyone,

I have two male blue rams that have what I think might be columnaris. They have white puffy, cottony fluff stuff on their gills, fins & tails. When I bought the rams there was one fish that had this on it and the guy reassured me that it was nothing, just from fighting for territory in t he small tank they were in. So against my better judement, decided to get them anyway.

I have them in a separate tank. I removed them from my 125g and have been using melafix and salt to treat but with no changes so I need to get something with a bit more kick to it. Will I have to treat my 125g too? None of the other fish have any signs of it...and it has been at least 3-4 weeks (probably longer..5 weeks) since this has occurred.

Does anyone know what can treat this and WHERE can I purchase it?

I was doing some reading on it and one article said pottasium permaganate....another said terramycin and copper sulfate. I asked a person that breeds rams and they said tetracyline.

I've been looking online and I can't seem to find any one of these that is for fish! It is all for humans or four legged pets.

HELP!!

Fairly straightforward - anti-fungal med from the LFS (or on-line).

For a heavy infection such as this one, salt alone seldom works - so you need to get chemical about it. Most anti-fungal meds will do the job - if you can get hold of "Jungle Labs" fizzy tablets then they come highly recommended - but most are competent.

The good news is they work in 24hrs (or then you repeat the dose), the bad news is - don't leave it too long or you'll lose the fish.

As you can identify the source, you may get away with not treating the big tank - but keep your eyes open........(and next time don't believe what the man tells you - or Q tank the new arrivals)

http://www.junglelabs.com/ is your start point.......
