Sorry for shouting but I saw my first fancy guppy fry...only one but he is so cute!! He is hiding in the plants and seems strong...I am wondering if there are more...One of the danios chased him alittle but he dodged into the plants...whew!!

How many fry do guppies usually have? What do you tthink the chances are the others survived? And chances of this one surviving?

Boy am I happy!! Just like a proud father!!!

thx*celebrate

We had one baby with our female's first drop. I thought it couldn't be-- just one...we watched so carefully I don't think mom ate any others.

Anyway a month later we had over 35 babies from the same female...much more interesting. Good to start with just one.

Breeder net seems like a good idea for the first 2-3 weeks, so that it finds its food and noone else finds it for dinner. After a couple weeks it might be big enough to not be dinner depending on what is in the tank.

Congrats,

Lou

Funny today we just found another baby (a week after the drop) in a tank that was holding the male gup. I think this one hid in the gravel for the week, but what is interesting is the size difference after we scooped it out to put in the fry tank...probably half the size of its tankmates.

Trick in a big tank is how to get the food to the little one. They scavenge pretty well, but growth will be slower than if it had a net and small food to eat right there.

Hope it all works out! Sounds like fun.
