Here`s my situation: I have a twenty gal. tank with standard lighting, a tetra 20 gal. power filter, and an under gravel filter. I have been keeping aquariums for about five years now, and I want to try brakish water. I have already researched the water conditions and setup (coral sand beach to one side of the half-full tank , bearing a mangrove sappling) I`m trying to immitate a south-eastern asian estuary, with one or two mudskippers and a couple small fiddler crabs. Is this harder than I think? if not, would I have to get different filtration? Plain tips and pointers would also be very helpful.

The mechanics of an undergravel filter will not likely work with sand as substrate. Sand will simply fall through the holes. I've used HOB filters and sponge filters with sand with no problems. You could use the powerhead as a lift for an intank sponge to help keep debris down.
