I currently have a 29 gallon tank. I just got a 100 gallon tank today.(freebie) What is the best way to convert it over? Will i have to cycle the tank over again? Also I want to use my filter and heater off my 29 gallon tank on the 100, and buy another filter and heater to make up the difference.. Will this work? I need advice on gravel to.... like best place to buy cheap gravel.Next the lid... The tank is made for two seperate lids. I would like to use wood. What would be the best way to light the tank? Can I use regular plywood? What kind of paint can you use that wont hurt the fish? Sorry so many questions, just excited about getting it going. Thanx for any help you all can give..

My guess is that you'll have to cycle it again...its over 3 times the size of the one you have. BUT because you're using all of the stuff from an established tank, then that will cut down on the time it takes to cycle.

Sorry not too great at the hardware stuff, but I'm sure someone will have some good suggestions. I'm sure you could use plywood, though you might need to treat it with something...and its not the prettiest stuff, even with paint on it.

Well said Froggy! The best place to get gravel from usually is your local home improvement store, rocky quarry or a gardening store. Fish and pet shops usually charge too much. I suggest 1 heater on each side of the tank. The Hagen Tronic heaters are the best in my opinion! Your heater on your 29 may not be sufficient to use on the 100 gallon even if you have another heater. How many watts is it? As far as lids your better off buying the plastic lids that fit the top of the aquarium. Or do you mean like a canopy over the top of the tank? So you got your 100 gallon tank for free?

They have calculators that calculate how many watts to use, but I don't know the web site, sorry. And you could use any kinda wood you want for the canopy, as long as you silicone glass to the underside of the canopy for obvious reasons. You could get gravel from the store but I wouldn't advise to put more than a quarter in. in there. As for lighting, its your call.

You probably don't need to cycle. Use the filter from the old tank, and another as necasary and build up your bioload slowly.
