You can use a plant such as Christmas moss or Java moss and squish it between a plastic mesh (cut to fit the size of the background). After a while, the moss will grow out of the mesh and make a cool wall o' plants.

I want to do something that won't piss my oscar off. He gets pissed easily. Like I just received a phone call earlier from home that he ripped out the tube that goes to my bubble walls and ripped a plant out of the ground. I am talking like a background that goes outside the tank. Suggestions?

There are many types of backgrounds that you can use. If you want to save money, dont buy the ones at the petstores but instead diy. You can use cardboard, plastic, wood, etc and paint it whatever color you want. I dont really like the cardboard route as water and cardboard dont like each other much. I used the same stuff you have on your kitchen cupboards, arborite. Go to Home Depot and they have a rainbow of colors. My background is a dark blue.

You can or whatever you can think of! My background just rests on the back of the tank, kindof shoved into the plastic bottom of the tank. Maybe plastic clamps would work and clamp it in place from the top of the tank. Just some ideas! It would depend on your tank and stand I guess!

I will post a picture of my tank. I need to do that anyway. I know you guys will yell at me but I will anyway. It looks really bad. Well, it doesn't look taht bad its just that there is bearily anything in it. I am working on it though. You will die when you see my oscar. He kicks! Watch out though, when you come up to the tank he will scoop up rocks and spit them at you. LOL

Cool! Fish with attitude! I would love to see your tank! Dont worry, I wont yell at you. The main thing is that you are working on it. Thats the fun part imo. *thumbsupsmiley* And there is no such thing as a 'perfect' tank.

I will put it on there late tonite. You would love my fish. His name is Jimmy. He actually has personallity. When ever I stick my hand in the tank he gets so mad. He goes and lays on the ground and acts like he is dying. Then when I'm done he goes and rips the tube out of my bubble walls. That makes me so mad because it is such a pain to hook up. Its cool because he will eat out of my hand. I can stick a pellet in my fingers and he will come up and eat it right out of hand. Every once in a while you will hear a thump! He is always jumping up and hitting the hood of the tank. Usually when I yell at him he stops.LOL. Well anyway, I will post a pic of the tank tonite and let me know what you think. I appreciate your help. You guys are lifesavers. Oh yeah, my tank is new so go easy. I haven't done anything to it. I just need some good positive feedback about what I should do.

Sound like my old Oscar I had.  ;D

I just tape the backgoung on.

Your Oscar would go crazy with a mirror on the back.

If you turn out all the room lights at night , except his tank..he probebly does some funny stuff to his reflection.heh.

Nice Oscar! He sure looks good. Another thing I just thought of also for a background that is really cheap is the plastic garbage bags. Im using them for my sick tank and it works not too bad.

My buddy was telling me about how his friend made a DIY background out of wood , and placed a sunkin ship in the wood box. He said it gave it such depth it was amazing.(or something like that he said)

I saw at petco, plastic inserts that are caves and cliffs , also places for fish to hide behind it.It is for the inside, but could be placed behind it for a 3d effect.
