I have 2 pink convict cichlids. They are a breeding pair. I really want them to breed. What can I do? I thought these guys would be pumping them out like water. What's going on? They have dug the tank completely up. I mean, it looks NOTHING like it did when I first set it up. Is this a sign? Someone help. :'(

I have three convicts and had them in a 55 gallon tank w/ 3 jack dempsey's and 3 firemouths.  Well, a week and a half later, I had fry from 2 of the convicts, so naturally, they chased everyone off into a corner, so I put just the 2 convicts (and as many fry as I could get) into a 10 gallon tank by themselves and then the male acted as though he wanted to kill the female.  After about 2 weeks of "bad living environments" the female couldn't take anymore, so I moved her back to the other tank where she is coming along real nice.  The male has just forgotten all about his "babies".

convicts lay eggs on a nest site, which is protective, in my case, a huge snail shell.  the pair will try to chase everyone else out.
