dont you think you have A LOT of bottom dwellers already? Why not go with some more mid/top.

Looking @ your list...

1 Bala Shark (Balantiocheilus melanopterus)6.5-7"
1 Rainbow Shark (Epalzeorhynchos frenatus) 5-6"
1 Albino Rainbow Shark (Epalzeorhynchos frenatus)4-5"

1 Cuvier Bichir (Polypterus senegalus) 4-5"
1 Gold Algae Eater (Gyrinocheilos aymonieri) 4"
1 hifin spotted pleco (Baryancistrus demantoides) 10-11"

1 clown pleco (P. maccus) 3"

Every fish except the bala chills at the bottom. It's even that you recommended that rainbow sharks are kept alone, not to be mixed with redtailblacksharks either but there are exceptions and your tank is probably one.
IDK, I know the Bala gets too big for your tank but you could go with 3 more balas, hopefully you're planning on moving your bala to a 150G + tank. Those things are so active and yours is only half grown? o_0

thats why i was wanting some rams. i dont necessarily need another pleco or algae eater was just thinking since one disappeared i wanted to replace it but i guess i probably shouldnt and just go with adding some rams. i was wanting to add a blood red parrot but them guys are just so expensive and i think the rams colors would go great with my tank set up

I have kept the german blue and gold rams off and on for the last few years. I say off and on for they are sometimes difficult to keep alive for more than a few months. They require soft acidic water and do poorly in hard water in the long term. Ph values much above 6.8 are not in my view suitable for their long term health. They also appreciate(need) warmer water 80 to 86 degrees would suit them. I have found them to be intolerant of any level of nitrites ,and nitrAtes need to be kept below twenty with ten being Ideal.

yeah i keep my tank around 78-80 degrees all the time. very rarely does it jump up or down 2 degrees. maybe ill adjust the tank up to 80 because ive seen my tank at around 84-85 with the fish i have and they have done fine in that temp. thanks for the input on the nitrites and nitrates. i will definitely keep that in mind.

so you would say the pH needs to stay around 6.8?

and do you know how to tell which is male and which is female?

i think females have a more pink belly and males have a larger first dorsal "spine" on their fin.... I really think they are way too small for the size and type of fish you have in your tank that will occupy the same space.

what do you mean by this? i was asking in a different thread about doing cichlid tanks and was getting an opinion from orion on a different setup and he said that if i wanted to mix any cichlids it would have to be a dwarf or smaller SA cichlid and so they dont get to big to my other fish and hurt them. i was told they should be fine together and he even said rams could probably do alright together with my sharks. heres the link http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/cichlid-discussion/57311-can-you-mix.html

i just want something different in my tank and im in love with the cichid species. i want to do a large tank with cichlids but wont be able to do that until i get out of the apartment im living in. i may only be able to house maybe a 30-40 gallon tank in my place on top of my 55.

I just think that the fish you have now are all pretty territorial as is and if you add a new (also territorial) fish to the bunch, that is also bottom dwelling they may get bullied around. Especially since rams are pretty small when you first get them and don't grow too much. I haven't owned any of your fish (RTS is close to a rainbow though) so I dont know, and if you have enough room to go around than you can try it...

Just something to consider.

well i appreciate the suggestion and info. i figured i would try it and if it didnt end up working i would just end up getting a 20 or 30 and split some fish up. i REALLY want to expand the amount of tanks i have and fish. i LOVE the hobby. just sucks that im in an apartment for the next 6 months.

Im in an apartment with 4 tanks... hahaha

Yeah I don't really wanna figure out your stocking right now but I'd suggest Bolivians or something a little bigger to hold their own against the others....

loaches wouldn't really be needed since you have so many fish now that eat off the bottom....

so is there really that much difference between bolivian and german rams on aggression and compatibility?

i do like the bolivian rams. they are good looking. i just went to go look at petco if they had any and i got to say all their fish look pretty crappy and the tanks were like all empty. i was very disappointed. they sure do have a TON of barbs though. i think ill check petsmart tonight they always have a bigger and better selection and they take a little better care of their fish too. im thinking i will just go for bolivian rams if its going to be bad to add german to my tank and play it safe. now i just need to find them.

and for the bolivian rams do you tell the sex the same as you do with the german rams?
