I just think that would be fun to watch. I got a couple of black kuhlis and they were impressing me by burrowing into pretty big pieces of gravel at the store but they don't do it here. (I have tahitian moon sand)

try tire track eels, they burrow and have just their heads poking out...
can't really think of any other fish I've seen do that...fire eels?

kuhlis rule:) they get pretty fat too!!!!!

Dang both of those eels sound really cool but I think they'd munch on probably just about all the fish I have in that tank. And then after they ate everyone they'd probably need a bigger tank. :p

I'll keep them in mind for possible future bigger tanks though :D

The one with the sand is a 30 gallon with 5 neon tetras 2 guppies (More guppies to come when they are big enough to leave the nursery!) , 1 opaline gourami, 2 kuhli loaches, a zebra loach, and a butterfly loach.

(oh and 2 ghost shrimp--I forgot them!)

Weather or dojo loaches like to burry themselves in the sand. I do not have any experiences with them, but I really want one (I had to pass on them today cause I do not have room yet)

They are very peaceful and you will not have a problem with it eating others.

They get to be under a foot long… it depends on where you read about them, but 11” have come from the more reliable sources. I have read that they would be fine in a 30, though I would not put one in there myself. You will have to ask around to see if it will work. Also with the other bottom dwelling inhabitance it might be cutting the room a bit short. But if you can rearange fish to gain more room in this tank, it might work.

Have you tried the striped kuhlies? I have heard that sometimes there is a difference in behavior, but again, you will have to ask someone that knows a bit more.

i have a dahli ring loach that loves to bury himself, its amazing how fast he is, one second hes above ground the next minute hes gone, occasionally you see 2 eyes sticking out, most loaches will usually bury, my red finned blue loach burys his head in the gravel leaving his tail sticking out vertical thinking that no one can see him, btw i have gravel in the tanks with my loaches but they dig more in the ones with small grain, in sand they should be happy

I think they're cool looking but I can't find striped ones! I called a bunch of stores and only found one that had black ones. People say they aren't too hardy and stuff.
