one word, crap, i was stupid and didn't quarentine some new fish and now i have ich in my 20g planted tank. it's not sensible for me to remove the fish nor the plants seeing as i have no other tank of suitable size to hold them all and some of the fish are impossible to catch(eg. khuli loach) and the plants are too established to move. i have increased the temperature to about 80 degrees F, and am medicating with aquari-sol(which i heard was effective against ich and safe for plants, but is it strong enough)every 3 days, doing a water change before each treatment and i have been treating for 5 days now, no carbon in filter, and i am going to continue this treatment for another 5 days, i have also tried putting the tank in darkness for 48 hours because i had heard that that could help( and i didn't think it would do much harm either so what the heck) if anyone has been through this, or has some better medication or techniques, please let me know:) , there is just so little information on treating ich in planted tanks on the internet. thanks so much, this is driving me absolutely insane.

i dont think he should crank up the heat as high as the fish can stand it. 80 should be sufficient.

I believe its important to do a gravel clean if possible in your tank.
Ich breeds in open water and their eggs fall to the substrate, there the eggs hatch and they seek to infect fish. Once they have fed enough, they detach from the fish and breed. You can see the cycle here. So not only are water changes and medication important, but a gravel clean to greak the cycle of the ich breeding. So if at all possible, clean the gravel as well as you can :)
