I was so disappointed to see that atleast 50% of the tanks I viewed had a case of ick. Although they do gaurante their fish for 14 days, why would you want to chance harming the fish already in your tank. I can't believe that they would even offer the fish for sale. They should put the fish out of view or just take the loss of inventory. I was wanting to buy some plants but was to affraid that maybe the plant tanks had some water from the fish tanks. I will never buy a fish or plant from that store.

I think I know what chain you are talking about...and if its the one I'm thinking of it's the same way here. I used to go there for fish all the time but I went one weekend and 7 tanks had fish with ich! I walked out and havent been back since.

Ick is also caused by stress to the fish so the chances of a fish having ick after being shipped are pretty high, thats why alot of people have a quarantine tank to put the fish into before adding it to the community....I have been to some good lfs' and they still have ick in their tanks everyonce and a while due to the stress factor.

I understand that but I think they could have at least had the fish medicated. My lfs is awesome but when they get a fish with ich they won't sell anything in the tank until it's been treated.

One of our local pet chains once had all their fish "not for sale" because of some kind of sickness (it wasn't ich). The best thing to do is write or call the store manager to complain.

Our local chain stores (and other stores) seem to vary from month to month on the cleanliness of their tanks. There is a high staff turnover at a lot of them, and some of the managers keep things clean, while others don't. Sometimes I see fish in the tanks that have clearly been dead for days.
