Ick or Cyst? (Something else?)

I'm not sure it can be seen, but with my crappy lighting, this is as good as it gets I'm afraid. My wife noticed this white spot behind the head, in front of the dorsal fin and below it is a slightly larger spot.
Any help that can be rendered will be, as usual, greatly appreciated. If it is a disease what to do?

From what I could see, it is too large a spot to be ich. Ich is usually the size of a grain of salt or sugar. If it's more pinhead or match-head size, I would say it's something else. Possibly velvet or body fungus.

please see my post http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17496 , the initial symptoms where not charactistic of ich (ie large spot on gill cover) however a day later the fish developed smaller spots and was rubbing itself on rocks etc. I am not saying it is ich, but I wouldn't rule it out.

edit: didn't think of it to now, but maybe the ich was caused by the stress of having the growth on the gill cover, the fish however recovered.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on it. Is there a need to treat the whole tank (if it turns out to be ich) or just her in another tank?

If it is ich, you will have to treat the whole tank. Ich can surface if the fish is otherwise sick.

I don't think there is ich treatment that is safe for shrimps (if anybody knows of one please let me know). Remove the shrimps before treating the tank.
