ICK Problems

Ick is easy to treat, just raise the temp to 27-28C and add aquarium salt(NOT marine salt. Table salt could be used, but there is much debate on how safe it is). I add one rounded tablespoon for every 5 gallons - for your 40, that would be 8Tbsp. Add the salt over a period of time(for example, 2tbsp in the morning, 2 at night, etc.).
Once all sign if the ick is gone, wait 3 or 4 days, then do a few large water changes to remove the salt.
That should treat the disease effectively. However, ick is usually caused by stress or poor conditions; unless you find these conditions and fix them, chances are the ick will return.
