ich

One thing to remember is that ICk is generally present in most aquariums and fish are constantly battleing it. what protects them from it is a strong immune system and lack of stress.
Typically, when fish get ich, it means that their stressed out or thier immune sys. is low.

Treatments usually don't work UNTIL the ich has detached from its host. This is this best time to treat for ich.

- Raise temp to + 80 (27).
- Add 1-2 tablespoons of aquarium salt to the tank.

Some times this is enough. Otherwise, consider a treatment program of...
- coppersafe.
- Malachite Green
- Acriflavin
- Trichloricide
- Sulfathiazole

One of these should clear it up in no time. These are ingredient names and are sold in petstores under diddferent product names. See your dealer.

Hope this helps.

You shouldn't do both the meds and the salt/heat treatment together. Often the medications reduce the oxygen in the water and the heat does too, which could end up killing your fish.

If you want to take the medications out, do a water change, and put a filter with carbon in overnight. Then you can start on either the heat treatment or the heat/salt treatment.
