16inches of fish in a 10gal? Isn't the general rule 1in of fish per gal? but I do agree about the ghost shrimp, that you could probably get away with calculating them as half an inch.

basically it's the "1 inch per gallon rule" for each species. While shrimp, on the other hand, produce very little natural bioload.

I read somewhere else on here that if you take the width times the length divided by ten, you can get your total amount of inches in the tank so in a ten i think it is 20*10/10, but that leave yo with 20 inches of fish? huh, oh well its finals week sorry for that, i go by the inch per galll rule too, but idk, sorry about trhat,

Yeah, there are a few different "guidelines" about stocking limits for fish.

For many fish it's either (1) one-inch-per-gallon or (2) length x width / 10 = inches of fish.
There are plenty of exceptions to this rule though:
- dwarf puffers...1 DP per 3 gallons
- goldfish...1 goldfish per 10-20 gallons
- ghost shrimp...don't count toward "inches", but no more than 1 ghost shrimp per gallon
- etc, etc, etc
