if my betta is really active

is that a bad sign? i know most of them aren't, but mine has been since i got it. my sister was just commenting on it, so i thought i'd ask.

If he's active and eating well then I would say he's happy with his newfound home.

Bettas are very active when they are happy and have the room to be active. One of my betta's is super hyper and he uses every single inch of his 10 gallon tank. He only perked up when I put him in the 10 gallon (he was in a 2.5 gallon before), and added a heater. I would say if a betta is very inactive then there is something wrong.

yes...bettas in teeny bowls and vases are often inactive...this is actually a BAD sign. You want your betta to be active and curious.
