ok i want to begin a saltwater tank in the near futer and i have an eclipse system 12 what can i do to turn this into an amazing tank

ps. thats all i have is the eclipse and a 25 or 50 watt heater*PEACE!*

well your first step should be to read through the stickies in the saltwater forums as these will give you a nice foundation. Also Michael Paletta's book The New Marine Aquarium would be a beneficial read for you.

A friend of mine used to have an eclipse saltwater and what he did was take out the bio wheel, he didnt even take out the filter media but I suggest you do, tossed a powerhead in there, got a few pieces of live rock, aragonite for substrate, and it was a great tank while he had it.

the biowheel is great at converting nitrite to nitrate, which is fine in a FW setup where nitrates only become problematic at a very high level...in a reef environment you need to keep nitrates low so it tends to be problematic. better to do more water changes or use macroalge

I reccomend you read all the stickies and posts in MFT's SW forums, then go to Reef Central and read ALL, yes EVERY sticky in EVERY forum, even if you never plan on keeping a single Zoa, read those stickies there is useful information in each and everyone. so that should only take you about a year, then come back to us.
