...one two-gallon Marineland Explorer Systerm.  In the other...an Aqua-Gardens two-gallon UGF hex. Both of them had bettas in them as of 5pm this evening when I left work. Whether they'll still have bettas in them tomorrow is another guess, since I put the purple ones in them, and everybody just -has- to have my purple ones!

So far, as of before I left work, the betta in the Explorer system was doing just fine. No suck to the filter at all. He swam by the intake and got sucked to it once, but then he swam away and stayed up top of the tank. I'm going to put a piece of rock in front of the intake tomorrow.

The one in the UGF is fine too, just likes to sit on the bottom of the tank underneath his rock.

They flare at each other sometimes, being as how their tanks are side by side, and have had no trouble eating.

I'll report again on Monday how they're doing, provided nobody's sold them out of those tanks.

UPDATE: Day 3

Well, it seems like this experiment as gone ary. No sooner do I come to work this morning than the betta in the UGF tank came down with that 24hr fungal/bacterial infection and died *sniffle*. I even added some salt to his water to no avail. Having thus cleaned out the tank, a new betta (a red one) now resides there. It's pretty cool, the hot pink of the gravel really makes him look flaming.

The betta in the Eclipse Explorer system is doing just peachie (but he's still a purple butterfy). Today he followed me around the counter, flaring at the red of my workshirt. He even flared at the new betta in the UGF tank. It's the same fish, I'm sure of that, because my coworkers wouldn't have bothered to put a new fish in the tank. I did a half tank water change and added salt to hope he didn't catch what his batchmate did. Eats like a champ, and thus far, no stucks in the filter, nor any issues with the outflow waterfall, he's learned to chase his food around. Good exercise.

Watch here for more, betta two gallon updates.

What are we on now...day 6?

AND THE BETTA IS STILL GOING STRONG IN THE ECLIPSE! He's even figured out how to hang out underneath the outflow and catch his food as it drifts by. He's active, flaring as usual at me, and is interested in anything going on at the counter. One happy go lucky fish.

Conclusion: A -healthy- male betta under proper water quaility/nutritional care can survive just comfortably in a 2 gallon Exclipse Explorer with the power filter causing him no harm what so ever.

Any feedback?

I can only conclude that "healthy" is the key thing.  A sick one who spent his whole life in a stagnant cup might be unable to deal with the current I guess, but I would have thought a healthy one would be OK.

And would be more likely to stay healthy in a filtered tank than a bowl or vase!

Thanks for testing it out Cole  *thumbsupsmiley*
