:( My two year old betta was accidentally broken last night and I think I need to help him die so he doesnt have to suffer any more.  I have seen many suggestions but dont know which is truly the best method.  I am leaning towards the Alka Seltzer method because it seems the most humane but I am not sure with them being labrynth breathers if it would work or not for Blueberry.  Anyone got any ideas?

Well, I was trying to use one of my larger plants to hold a piece of lettuce down at the bottom of the tank for my snail and my betta got in between the roots of the plant and the wall of the tank before I realised what had happened.  His back end just by his tail was injured to the point that he couldnt swim.  I finally made the painful decision to put him in the freezer.  After reading quite a bit and consulting a couple of local fish stores everyone said that freezing is definitely the lesser of all the evils when it comes to this sort of thing.  So that is what I ended up doing.  Thanks to the two people that tried to help me out with it.

Well, as disgusting as it might sound, I use our disposal when a fish is beyond help. If you stop and think about it, I scoop them into a cup and carry them into the kitchen, the disposal is obviously running when I put them in. They never leave the water and it's over in an instant, probably a pretty painless way to die.

Sorry to hear about your loss Clair.
