I will soon be setting up a 29g tank, i wanted to make it a single specimen cichlid tank. This will be going in my room next to my bed, so i thought it would be neat to have a cichlid that is quite known for interacting with there owners. Oscars are probably the best known cichlid for doing this, but obviously i cant get one of those. Does any one else know of a cichlid that is like an oscar, just smaller :p.

Your right, SA and CA have the best reputation for owner interaction. Of course it has to be the larger ones!

I belive that some of the apistos, and mabey the rams do to some extent. I may be wrong, but I thought I read this somewhere.

I'll think about this and look up a few to see if any come to mind. If I do I'll let ya know.

Thanks orion, i really like the look of red devils. i know i wouldnt beable to keep one for life in there, but maybe for a year or so if i got a smaller one, and then get it say a 55g?

Anyone know the growth rates of red devils?

EDIT : Just discovered Nandopsis salvini, seem like a pretty neat fish, could one of these live out their entire life in the 29g?

not sure of the salvini.

However I just remembered one. I cant recall the latin name, but I belive it was called a chocolate cichlid, or rainbow cichlid. Mabey they are two different things.

But IIRC, they were just starting to gain some popularity here in the states. Smallish cichlid, max size around 4 or 5 inches. I'll have to look and see if I even know what Im talking about.
