That's what I thought too, but a lot of people on here said they added firefish to tanks with established firefish and had no problems. I just added another today, and he doesn't care about the original one. This new one also acts like a completely different fish... he doesn't hide in the rock, and doesn't care how close to the tank you are or how fast you move. I don't know if maybe this one was tank raised or just braver... he isn't skittish at all.

Added another, it acts completely different from the first one. First one acts the same, second is brave... although the first one used to be more brave and a few months ago decided to go into complete hiding and is slowly starving himself. I am hoping the second firefish will coax him out so he can eat more.

When I had the first firefish, he hid the majority of the time and was very, very skittish when he was the only fish in the tank. When some more fish were added, he was out a whole lot more... I think they acted like dither fish so the firefish felt safer. I'm not sure why he went into hiding recently, he may just be getting old.

They definitely do better when they have some other fish in the tank, whether thats another firefish or in my case I put a couple of pink skunk clowns in with him and the three of them were out and about in a matter of a day or two :) When I had the firefish alone pretty much the only time I saw him was during feeding times if everything was quiet...great eater though, huge appetite.
