Plenty big enough for North American crays, yes.
It's the Australian ones that you need to watch out for. The most common Australian cray sold here---the 'Australian Redclaw' a.k.a. Cherax quadricarinatus---can get to be 10 inches+, if I'm not mistaken.

They're Procambarus alleni, which is often referred to at the LFS as "Florida Electric Blue Lobster," or something to that effect.

Matter of fact, this is as good a spot as any to post a shot I snapped of one of the juvie (~1.5") crays today:


As you can see, they are a pretty vibrant blue.

Tetras may get picked-off here and there, but for the most part it should be okay. Mainly it's just a matter of avoiding bottom-dwelling fish and fish with long finnage.
