Very hard to tell. I find Severums one of those fish that are hard to sex....though males tend to be a bit bigger/broader then the females. I've read females tend to have more facial markings but i cannot state whether this is the truth or not....so take my advice with a grain of salt on this.

I currently have 5 severums I know for sure that 1 is female and 1 is male only because they breed, even then I don't know which is which. Good luck sexing them cause I've had them for 2 1/2 years and still don't have a clue.

Sevs are easy to sex once you know what to look for. the down side to it is they almost have to be full grown before they show sexual dimorphism's (sp?)

Males most often will have stripes on their face longer filaments on the dorsal and anal fin and the anal fin will turn bright red when in the mood for spawning.

Females show non of these traits, but green females do tend to become more boldly striped when in the mood for some sweet lovin.
