I was wondering if there is a special net made that can be used to capture plecos that won't get them entangled. Any links or product names would be great. Thank you.

I've been Googling it too. I vaguely remember reading about one somewhere but I'm not finding anything on it now.

Thank you for trying :). By the way, that is a beautiful zebra you have (I love the zebra plecos. They're the best looking ones by far)!

Thank you very much for your kind welcome! I'm starting up an 80g this week and I want to make sure I have all the proper supplies.

No this is my first big tank. I use to work at a Petsmart (I know, I know) so I know quite a bit about fish care. I'm also an aquatic bio major so fish are my thing. I'm just hoping all goes smoothly with the tank setup. I'm planning on using Bio-Spira to cycle so I will hopefully be getting the fish on the weekend.

Oh, definetly! So far the choices are: Royal Pleco, Albino Tiger Oscar (my all time favorite freshwater fish!), a green terror, and possibly another larger cichlid. I'm getting them all as babies in hopes that if everyone grows up together they won't kill each other *PEACE!* .

Lol, I've heard that those Royal Pleco get BIG and messy x_X
But I suppose if you're only going to have a handful of fish in the tank, it'll be okay. Oscars are awesome, but they get too big for my taste :p
But I'm not Cichlid expert, so I dunno how well they'd all work together.

The pleco will be to big for them to eat so he should be safe. Since the terror and oscar will grow to be around the same size and grow up with one another HOPEFULLY it will be fairly peaceful. The tank is fairly large so they should be able to have their own little territories.

I use a bowl for Plecos, especially my busy noses. Their bristles would be a mess in a net. They would get hurt for sure!

I am actually looking for a new home for my Sail Fin Pleco. He is BEAUTIFUL. I really hate to give him up, but I cannot supply the size tank he needs. He is in a 45 gallon, long right now. If you live in Southern California and are interested in my pleco, please let me know.

If there is a net that they cannot get tangled in I have never come across one. I find that the bigger hole nets are much easier to get them out of...They still get tangled but you don't have to cut the net to get them out.

For larger plecs use your hand. You gently push the plec down into the gravel wile slipping your thumb under their nose, then lift them by their face.

You may or may not be able to keep the oscar and green terror together. But it sounds like you have a good plan for trying. Just make sure you have a backup plan if things go south.

Like pc said royals are VERY messy. Combine that with the big cichlids..filtration filtration filtration! But at least you are starting out wile they are small so you can add filters as time passes.

Yes as far as filtration goes we got a Eheim Professional Thermoheater. I'm hoping that will be able to handle it. Thank you for the advice too!

As a matter of fact I do live in SoCal. How big is your pleco Bleating?

I can tell you..no it wont. The thing to remember when keeping a royal is Mechanical filtration is the most important filtration. The mess they make will take several filters to keep the tank clean. But if you get a young one, you can add to the tank as it grows. Fortunately royals are pretty slow growers. So you should have plenty of time.

I know I'm a little late on posting this as you are now looking at getting a L007, but others who read this may learn something.

Well the L007 isn't for certain yet. If I can find a royal I like I'd take it over the vampire. I'm just having trouble finding them. But thank you for letting me know about the filtration. I share the tank with my boyfriend and we've already discussed the possibilty of adding anouther filter in the future.
