Is this normal?

I purchased a handful of snails from my LFS (turbo, trochus, and margherita) and noticed over the next several weeks that a few of them (all three varieties), at one time or another, have fallen upsidedown and couldn't right themselves. Two of them died, which I'm presuming was from falling over and me not being home to flip them back over. Is this normal for snails?? I also have a lot of green algae on the sandbed (probably need to do more water changes), so they might be slipping on that. Any thoughts?

Have you been acclimating the snails well? If you don't do a really long, slow acclimation, you'll usually lose quite a few of them.

yes its normal for them not to be able to flip back over.... cerith snails i think can flip back over tho...

Interesting, I'll have to get some of those then. I didn't do a drip acclimation..just added tank water to the bag at intervals and then dropped the little guys in the tank.

I have one Turbo snail that needs to be flipped over every couple days. He is always getting himself into trouble. I also have an occasional Margarita snail that needs to be flipped over. All normal

if we put snails in the tank, should we just drop em onto to substrate or place em on glass?

You can just drop them in. Chances are they will not stick to the glass if you place them there anyway.
