My 5 year old Jack Dempsey is showing signs of pop eye in both eyes, and I read that to treat it is to use epsom salts. He is a 10 inch fish and shares a 30 gallon tank with 2 small map turtles, (1) 4 inch lace cat, and (1) 6 inch plecostomus. The filter is a Fluval 303 external canister. I feed a chiclid staple floating/sinking shrimp pellet mix with a pinch of color enhancing flakes every other day. 20% water changes, filter cleaning and vacuuming are done routinely once a month. Other than the overcrowding issue, water quality (IMHO) has been superb and Jack was perfectly healthy until 2 weeks ago when this eye-bulging episode started up. So cause is a big mystery. I read that Jack should be placed into a hospital tank, but is it possible to just treat the 30 gallon and the other inhabitants will be okay with the salts?
