40G: Cichlid Planted: Red Jewel, Red Zebra, Blue Malawi, M. estherae OB, M. Auratus, 2 Krib, 2 Convicts (Breeding like rabbits!), Firemouth, Jack Dempsey, Common Pleco

Jack is getting picked on by EVERYONE! When he's in the community 2/3 of the tank, my R. Zebra won't leave him alone. Same with the Firemouth. So, he gets chased to the Convict 1/3 of the tank and vise versa. Its like watching a freakin' tennis match! Now the poor guy mainly hangs out in a crevice next to the convicts' cave & then comes out when its dark. I feel sorry for the guy. What should I do? I really don't have anywhere else to put him.

Get rid of it. It will probably help you if you decide to either get mbuna african cichlids or s/central americans otherwise you're going to have continual problems, especially in what is a comparatively small tank.

Take him out and I bet the firemouth will get it next, or the kribs.

Therein lies the problem! He is one of my GF's favorites!

I know its a mixed eco system, but other than that it is a fairly peaceful tank.

I think I'll just let it go. He needs to grow some BALLS! He is one of the bigger ones in the tank!

From what i've read about JDs on discussion boards, i see that they are quite wussy fish. They are fierce with bunch of loosers but if they are getting picked on they surrender quicker than other fish.
My JD dominates the tank but he is very shy: if somebody who is not me i must to add, approaches the tank he runs as a crazy and sometimes bumps into things. He often sports scratches and bumps on his stupid head.
I can easily imagine that other fish with a little bit more guts than the severum could harass him and he would be very poor little boy.
I love him more than any othr fish in the tank but the truth is JDs are not very tough. They are cowardy and mean. :)

They'll whittle him down, and once he's dead turn their attention elsewhere. I don't think sitting around hoping is going to work out here for more than a few months, weeks. At the end of the day this is not a good mix of fish in a little tank
