This has been bothering me for a while and I need to get this off of my chest.

I have three older Jager heaters. They say do not submerge above water ling. I have a newer one, mabey a month old that says the same thing. Yet I see in many peoples tank pictures that they have the Ebo's fully submerged. I go to BigAls website and they say that they are fully submersable. But go to foster and smith, and they say sumbersable to the water line.

Some sites say the new TS series is are water proof. Thats what I have. This just bothers me for some reason.

Who actualy makes these? I'd like to check out the manufactuers website. Is it Eheim?

Then if they aren't sure that there heaters would stand up to law, then are they really that safe for our tanks?

I'm going to have to buy some new heaters anyway. The used ones I got have already gotten moisture in them in less than a week of use. (Thats a chance you take with second-hand equipment)

Ya know...maybe I didn't read enough of the small print...but I'm pretty sure my hagen tronics didn't say that they couldn't be completely submerged. They've been great heaters for me.

yea mine have been working great, keep the temp perfect, but yes I have wondered about that water level line. I think they are fully submersible, but its reccomended that you dont (god knows why) but if you were to submerse them completly they should be fine, I see them submerged at my lfs alot in some small show tanks

Good to know.

I've heard alot on some other forums and sites that since Eheim took over, that the heaters have lost a lot in quality. Anyone have any experence with this or comments?

I honestly figured with the ones that I bought, that I would at least get some good use out of them before they needed replaced by the reputation they have. I don't think that I'm going to replace these with other Jagers.

We bought one of the "new" Jagers a couple of months ago. So far, it has worked well.

We still have a couple of the "old" Jagers hanging around, and they seem much better than the new ones. We unfortunately had a really old one stop heating, although the light stayed on, which was pretty annoying.

I've been really happy with a couple of Visi-Therm Stealth heaters we got a few months ago, they are plastic (so are less likely to break) and automatically turn off when the water level falls, and turn back on when it rises again. The seem pretty steady on temp control, too (we used them with angel fry with no apparent losses due to temp changes).

I think if I had the money, I might try an inline heater on some of my tanks, but they're about $40 each. :(

Thanks for the tip on the stealth heaters Lotus. I've heard several people speak good of these, so I may give them a try.

I would love to try one of those inline heaters. True, they are a bit more costly, but I've only heard great things about them. I may get to try one someday.
