Java fern = gill net???

Man, just when you think you've seen it all...

A few days ago, I awoke to find one of my dwarf rainbows, the nicest fish in my tank, dad on the bottom of my tank. I've lost a couple tetras in the last week(from what I presume was TB), so I wasn't suprised, untill I tried to retreive the body.

It was stuck. Literally.

I had to stick my arm in, and pull the fish out - Out of the roots of some java fern.

When I checked the body over, there wasn't a single mark on it... no signs of disease, injury, parasites, anything. The fish was perfectly healthy the night before. This was the second largest fish in the tank, and chased every other fish(including a blue gourami which was nearly double the size), so I highly doubt it was attacked anyway.

so, my analysis is that he swam in under some driftwood and got trapped. Sounds unlikely, but I see no other way it could have happened.

so, long story short, Plants can kill. Beware!

Ughhh...sorry to hear that.
Losing a fish under any circumstance sucks, but this is almost worse---everything healthy and normal, and then essentially what amounts to a 'fluke' happens...just plain crap luck.

I wouldnt beat yourself up about it too much, like bug vine said just a case of real bad luck. With most plants its easy to keep the roots buried and out of the way but there are so many plants that leave trailing roots that its a hard situation to avoid.

Just put it down as a fluke, it sucks but its still a fluke.
