I have 4 Julies dickfeldi :http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1525 in my 53 gal tank.

At my LFS they are selling also Julies Dickfeldi , but the midnight type: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/profiles/species.php?id=1525 ,wich are almost all black.

I was wondering if its possible to mix these two types in my tank, or i'm looking for trouble?

I dont remember well the rules of mixing Julies species together. And in this case its the same specie but different color....
thanx!

Same fish, just a color variation.

With the proper rockwork you could probably get away with at least two pair of breeding julies in this tank depending on the other tankmates, and how close they decide to have their respective teritories to each other.

So, adding more julies is going increase your chances of getting at least a pair. I have some juvenile J. dickfeldi 'midnights' in my 75 gallon. Love the little guys.

tanks orion.

the other tank mates are : 1 yellow lab, 3 leleupi, 1 calvus + the 4 dickfeldi i was talking about. all fishes are still young.

So do you think there is still some space left for some dickfeldi midnight?
and can the midnight pair with a dickfeldi '' normal'' ??

wellk the best way to look at it is the future picture. tangs are known to grow slowly, i can tell u right now its super true...so if u see them chasing eachother now, wait till they get to 4 - 6 inches it be hell, so i dunni i think u might be at ur limit, but i mean shoot i have 3 inkfin calvus' 2 lelupi, 2 juli. marleris, 2 assorted malawian cichlid (which i haven't quite figured out the name) a pair of victorians, 2 cylindricus, and a big *** syn. cat lol all in a 46 gal bowfront...
infact here is an update of my tank cuz i no some of u guys know my tank like orion, well you've seen it here it is...

my initial set up...

my tank set-up after i dunno 2 months

so my opinion go ahead and get ur fish, jus remember they will soon grow out of ur tank, so jus keep that in mind
