I just got 2 Dimidiochromis Kiwinge last night. I am sort of new to the hobby and the guy at the LFS seemed genuine but I wanted to get some input. Are these fish kind of rare? He said there is one commercial breeder in the US - I think in FL. He also said they become blue with yellow spots - I googled the image and the ones I saw were all blue. Also, does anyone know of a common name for them aside from Kiwinge, if any? Any input would be appreciated. here are some shots below.
Thanks

Andy

They're relatively rare (or, in othe words, not as common as a lot of other african cichlid species in the hobby).

They're a dimorphic species, so only the males will become blue as they age (the females will remain largely the same in coloration and pattern).

I don't think they're known by a common name. Many african cichlids are only known by their scientific name.

I hope you have a large tank, they typically exceed 12" when full grown.
