just plain lost

new to the saltwater world got live rock from a lady who just took it out of her aquarium but all algae had died on it how do i go about renewing it should i scrub the old off or leave it or like i said im just plain lost

no need to scrub it... the main thing that makes the good pink/purple coraline algae grow and spread is calcium as long as your calcium is somewhere around 400 your good to go! if its completley dead youll need a few pieces with the good algae to seed the rest

zachk908, Welcome to Saltwater tank keeping. Why don't you give us a run down on your tank and what you are doing with it at this stage. The pros in here like TRe could most likely give you some good advice and keep you going in the right direction. Pics would be nice, but aren't required, lol.
