Just wondering which is wise...

I've discovered that there is an Eclipse hood system that will fit my 29G tanky. It is in size of 12x30. Sadly, I came upon this after I bought the Emperor filter, but it is not too late, hopefully. I could still return the filter and buy Eclipse hood system 3. The question is, which is a better filter, the Eclipse or Emperor? It is kinda tricky on the Eclipse, because the water flow over the filter and can easily flow over without going into the filter. Any thoughts?

emperor filter is probably a better filter as that is 100% what its made for as opposed to the filter being built into a hood. I dont know the exact specifics on the eclipse hood filter so Im not 100% sure but I would be more comfortable wth the emperor

yeah, even the emperor is better than the eclipse, but i still would gow with a canister (Fluval 204/5) for a tank that big

I'm considering the Fluval canister for the 55G, because of more space under the tanky.

yes, but i tried using my faverite HOB (AC) on my 29 and it just didnt work anywhere near as well as my fluval 204 does, ill never again use a HOB on anything over a 20gal.

I have an eclipse hood on my 25g-tall tank. Filtration is ok. When the filter gets 'full' a lot of the water does just skim over the top and onto the biowheel (all stays within the tray - no worry about overflow). In a canister when you get clogged up, it reduces the flow... the key is to keep your filters ideally clean.

I do like the clean look of the eclipse hood, however you don't have the flexability that you would with a canister filter. Also, you have to use marineland's little filter cartridges (or make your own). The eclipse system does the job, but probably isn't the best system out there. Your emporer will probably be equal to slightly-better than the eclipse system. Like I said, the best thing about the eclipse system is the look of a nice, clean top, with no junk hanging off of the tank. (Or just build a cap to hide your conventional equipment).

I agree, the Eclipse hood are a very nice touch to the top of the tank, but the quality of the filter is of my top concern. Ill stay with the Emperor for this 29G. I will most likely go with the Fluval for the 55G, along with the Emperor, the more filteration, the better.
