I have 2 convicts that I just got. They say it is very easy to breed them. I am not that concern about seeing the eggs before they hatch, I am using caves that don't allow me 2 see what they are doing when they go in.
Should I go ahead and put something around the filter tube to keep the fry from being sucked up when they become free swimmers. That's if the parents keep them in the cave and I'm not around when they first come out.

Does underground filters cause any harm to the fry and will it suck them into the gravel?

i dont think under gravels are powerfull enough to suck in a fry, or at least shouldnt be. Unless the gravel size is entirley to big and the fry managed to swim under the gravel and right against the bottom. As far as the filter tube i would cover it up with some sort of gauze.
