I was toying with the idea of keeping live plants with a pair of convicts. I wanted to hear everyone's experience with keeping live plants with convicts. Specifically, will the plants survive with convicts? Do convicts tear up plants?

Or should I just go with plastic plants?

I use plastic plants with my breeding pair.

Only problem i see with live plants is that like any other cichlid, they dig. They dig a lot durning spawning so the live plants would be uprooted almost all of the time no matter how many times you replant them.

Thats the only problem i see with live plants and Convicts.

Plants should be fine. As a general rule, keep with the large-leafed, rooted type plants and see how it goes. None of my cichlids, including convicts, bother my plants. You can read about the plants I keep in my tank here: http://www.myfishtank.net/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9634

Any stem plant that enters my tank is chewed to stems. Like cichlid-man suggested, you may have a problem keeping them rooted. My plants are well rooted, so you may have to protect the surrounding area while the plants root themselves. You can do this by taking a plastic pot, cutting out the bottom, and pushing it into the gravel around the plant. When the plant is rooted, just pull the pot out and over the plant.
