I just bought two Kenyi a week ago and love them. I got the flakes the store had been feeding them and they like them so so. Maybe they just haven't adjusted to the new tank. The store said to feed them zuchinni? If they eat this how much do I feed them? They are only 3/4 inch long each.

They seem to be ok, swimming around, chasing the CAE around the tank most of the time and moving rocks.

Thanks!

Never heard of feeding cichlids zuchinni. Maybe drop a slice in and see how they like it. I've only heard of people feeding that to plecos.

They will eat Cichlid pellets, flakes, smaller feeder fish, live bloodworms, live blackworms, and frozen bloodworms. Thats all i have really used or heard of. Someone else got anything to put in?

My cichlid is a herbivor...mabey yours is too? In that case, look for spirilina based flakes, and make that your main food thing. They do like variety, so I usualy alternate between a tropical fish food, the spirilina flakes, and some cichlid pelets. You can throw in real veggies too, Spinach (you need to soften it a little, try boiling it) peas,, if you squish thier insides out, and I imagin zuchini would work...Id cook it, and give them the inside part, dont make them fight with the skin of it.

My most awesome tank was full of Africans including Kenyis. I fed them an assortment of different foods including boiled sliced cuccumbers. I avoided squash as it gets stringy when boiled. I boiled cuccumbers till they got soft and the meaty insides turned from white to grey. They sank straight to the bottom and the fishes loved it. Hope this helps ya some!

I agree with the zuc's and vegetable based diets. I feed my mbuna fish protein sparingly. I would caution against using any sort of live or frozen meaty food unless you are using it once a week as a treat etc.
