silly me. bought brichardi.. 3 for $28 canadian.. anyways.. brought em home floated em for a long time...

i was in a hurry to leave and i was like.. oh yea they need a higher ph.. so i added a bunch of ph up... turns out they were in 7.0 water at the store.. and they went into shock...

1 was swimming upside down in circles... so i threw him back into 7.0 water thinking he would die for sure.. but he lived...

the other 2 were doing alright... not freaking out too much.. i thought they would be ok for sure.. i did an 80% water change on their tank... they seemed a lot better when i left.. but when i returned home they were both dead..

$20 down the drain ...

reminding you to find out what ph your lfs keeps their fish at so you dont waste a bunch of money learning mistakes the hard way..

now little brichardi is going into my 48g community tank.. and i pray that he does not cause trouble

baaaahhh... i dont trust him with any other fish... the convicts will probably kill him.. the kribs have fry and will probably kill him.. i guess i could keep him with my silver dollars but he aint gonna like it... i could always keep him by himself but i think he would get bored... he might be ok with the female bettas.. but i think hes probably best in the 48... ive got mostly medium sized fish that are medium aggressive... lots of skirt tetra.. bunch of sharks.. couple killi fish... couple rams and gouramis... and some tetras.... i think i will try him tomorrow and see if he is ok... he is still pretty small... maybe 2 inches at the most... i will see what happens.. i might call the store i bought them from and see if they have some sort of fish guarantee

Generally if you dont bother adjusting pH at ALL, its healthier for the fish in the long run.

If you know that the store's pH is different than yours, then a drip method aclimation to your pH.

Sorry about the loss though...

Sorry to hear about that. Agian, dont mess with the water chemistry unless its absolutley unavoidable. And certianly do not do it quickly, as that almost ensures that something will go wrong.

A good learning experince none the less.

You may be ok with just a single brichardi. But if it did turn out to be quite aggresive, I wouldnt count on much surviving. But the likely hood of it becoming that aggresive with no breeding involved isnt much IME.

haha convicts are great but they are little devils..

most of the fish in my 48 are semi aggressive, and the same size or larger than the lonely brichardi... i think i will put him in there and see how he does... i still have to call the store and see if they have a guarantee... we wont tell them why they died tho ;)

silly brichardi.. i floated him in a cup in the 48.. and after about 5 mins he decided he would jump out of the cup and into the tank.. he swam straight to the bottom and started breathing heavily - great..

anyways, he is now hiding.. and i dont know if he is alive or not

I had a tank with a breading pair of Brachardi. They had like 4 sets of babies (at least) in the tank with them. I loved them sooo much. Had them for sooo long, and just the other night, something happened to the heater, and in the morning I woke up to a tank full of dead Brachardis:( :( :( :( I opened the cover to the tank and you could just feel the heat come from it.
I'm sooo stinkin mad, don't even know what to do.....
I'm wanting to get more soon because I think they are such cool fish and also great parents.
Just thought I'd share.......

Oh man sorry to hear that Jeanna. Not much warning to prepare for equipment failure like that.

I've got more than enough N. brichardi if you are interested. No idea where you are, shipping may or may not be an option for you.

leck85- Any update on your brichardi?

Thanx, yeah, it really sucked, just ruined my whole week!!! And I'm going this week-end to a store that has more of them. Just hopefully I can find a pair again. Last time I got real lucky.
I live in Mi. and I've never had any fish shipped to me. I'm not too keen on the shipping thing, but thanx for the offer.
Take it easy,
Jeanna

Well, I've had any experince with it, receiving or shipping. No problem on the offer, I just try to do what I can to help.

I will be getting experince shortly however, as I will be placing an order in a few weeks. Scary stuff to spend hundereds of dollars and have to sit and wait to see if it was worth it.
