Well I got a Java Fern for free but the problem is I had to take a Cherry Barb. Now for Q's and concerns:

Do they need to be in at least pairs?

IS my tank overstocked or is it alright?

If they need to be in pairs should I get another Cherry Barb?

They don't need to be in pairs. If you notice him chasing the platies relentlessly, you'd need to get rid of him. A little lunge is okay, just so long as he's not spending all his time chasing after a platy or two.

But is my tank overstocked? I would like to know just in case I need to watch out for add ons.

IMO it is stocked to the max. If your platies breed and fry survive, then will be overstocked. I definitely wouldn't add anything else.
