Kissing Gouramis with Cardinal Tetras?

I just got a 75 gallon tank and the only thing my husband is insisting on is a school of cardinal tetras. I think Kissing Gouramis are so adorable and they make me laugh for hours with their kissing motions, but I've read that they may eat smaller fish. I really want to get a few, but I don't think he'll let me if they eat his fish. Will they? And if they do, will it be right away, or not till they get real big?

By the time they're three or four inches long the cardinals will be in trouble. IF you get some big cardinal they will be ok for a long time, but very few people seem to have their cardinals get more than an inch long (they can get 2 inches long)

So should I not get the gouramis cuz they'll attack the tetras? That sucks.
