Kissing gouramies get about 12 inches full grown. I think about maybe 3 or 4 too.

So they are gay fish. ;D Two males kissing to get a girl! That's just weird. ;D

yeah about a year. make sure your tank is at least 12 or 13 inches wide beecausee otherwise they will not have enough room to turn around, and since i am looking at my 30 gallon right now i would say that 3 would be the most (but mine is a tall tank so i could be off)

the kissing behaivor is competition like was said in aprevious post
but they arent kissing like int eh human sense
they are asserting their dominance over the other with out nipping at eachother
they are seeing who can look like the biggest badass instead of beating the crap out of eachother
i think its more civilized
its pretty facinating to watch

Full grown kissing gouramies, most in a 30g tank, 0. One, a 12" full bodied fish belongs in a tank at minimum 55 to 75 gallons. Two adult kissing gouramies are not peaceful fish, unless you have a really large tank, a pair is the most you should have. Three, they need hiding spots, meaning rockwork, which will take away from the volume of the tank.

They should take about 2 years to reach ~10, then they grow slower to ~12" max. The "kissing" is most often seen when they are trying to eat foods of the rocks or the bottom of the tank, or in a tank that does not allow enough room for more than two, it is a sign of aggression.

Anyways, kissing gouramies do not belong in a 30 gallon tank.

He is probably right. My 30 is approxomately 3 feet long, two feet tall and 1 foot wide. that means that any direction they would try to swim in, they could only go a foot or so before they would have to turn around. that does seem kind of cramped.

Yes he's right none belong in a 30 gallon. I wasn't really looking at the thread to carfully when I answered this one. The kissing is seen a lot in stores because the tank is so overcrowded and they are getting aggressive. That's not good. I cant' believe I said 3 or 4. Am I insane? ;D
