krib problem

my female krib just lays around, shes dull in color, but my male is bright and swims around. he goes around her every now and again, and it seems as though she brightens up a little, but she just goes away and hides for awhile. he sometimes nips at her side and stuff. what could be the problem?

Is she eating at all?

I would say it may be eggs, but if she is just laying in the middle of the tank then that is most likley out.

i dont see her eat, but that doesnt mean that she doesnt. she has one hiding spot that i cannot find for the life of me. but she also sits in the corner of the tank behind a pot and driftwood and fake plants, so....im still clueless.

Often times when I loose my female like that, it is becasue she is guarding eggs. But when mine have eggs laid, the belly of the female turns very bright.

Have you tried to target feed in her area to see if she is eating or not?

no not yet, i have freeze dried brine shrimp and flake food, how would you suggest me feeding her?

Target feeding is normaly best done with a small turkey baster. But I don't know that it's going to fix the problem though.

You did let the tank cycle before you added the kribs didn't you? Whats your water readings?

hey, umm......i figured out the problem, she wasnt healthy, she died sometime earlier on friday, well, on the market for another female krib, thanks 4 the help though,

where did you buy her from ? if you had her less than a week them im sure you could have got youre money back, sorry to hear that

Hopefully you can get a healthier female, and the male will take too her.

the only major fish store in my area is petsmart, and they have the best guarantee at 2 weeks, all the other little ones are either 48 hrs, 72hrs, and the place i got her from was 5 days, too late. petsmart doesnt carry them, ive looked. oh well, i guess ill break down an get another.

ok, so i went back to the lfs where i got her @, found another one, beautiful coloring, acclimated her, and put her in, before i did though while she was in the bag, the male came up to her and it was like love at first sight!! well put her in, and she hid for a few minutes, and bam, found the male, and started leading him around the tank, dancing and showing off colors and everything!! hope this works out!!
