Hi all, On Saturday the wife and I were out fish shopping/window shopping. As some of you know I've been looking for Dwarf Cichlids. Well I found 2 beautiful Kribs....Well my wife also found some Albino? Kribs (White in color, but pretty no less) Anyway as you probably can imagine we/her couldn't decide on either, can both variety go into the same tank? (29g)

Someone before commented that I could have multiples so long as the male/female ratio is correct. Is this also the case with different variety/species of kribs in the same tank?

If not, I do have a nearly completed 20L for one or more pair (hers). I'd prefer all in one tank, but I'm flexible in this.

Both are kribs so i don't see why both varieties can't be together....however i'm not sure how they will react to the different color forms.

Kribs usually only form pairs, so having 1 male to mulitple females will not work. It will work until he chooses to breed with one and thats it.

So if possible try to buy a "breeding pair" of each?

Or do the males prefer to choose their mates from a group, meaning buy 1 male and 2-3 females and wait for them to pair up, then pull the others?

Denny,

Another thing to remember...something I'm also learning here...
Cichlids (kribs, anyway) have a tendency wherein both sexes will have a fairly decent likelihood of picking on one another. (males bullying females into mating; females bullying males during the raising of fry)

This is what makes it very important to get kribs that will be all about the same size.

You may know all of this already, but I figured I'd point it out just in case. My inclination when I first bought my pair (and yes, the 2 individuals I bought paired-up almost instantly) was to get a female that was larger than the male. Luckily I knew better. Sure, you could get lucky and have an even-tempered female that would put up with a smaller male, but I wouldn't chance it---both the males and females can be cunning, calculating menaces toward one another if there's no 'good vibes' between them! LOL :p

It's cool to see that you're seriously considering getting some. It's neat how you'll sort of have a 'his' and 'hers' pair between you and your wife---will she get the albinos and you'll get the regulars?

P.S. Denny...go buy a digital camera right now! ;)

Yea she'll get the Albinos, and I'll have the regulars (Mine are prettier :p ) And in the interest of fairness shouldn't the person who broke the camera then replace it? :D (She doesn't seem to see it that way) Maybe Santa will bring me a late Christmas present*BOUNCINGS
