Just wondering if anyone can tell me if this is a L018 or L081, because I'm trying to determine how big it will get. Also, is there any way to tell if it is a male or female?

That's what I was afraid of, the lfs guy said it was the one that got about 6", I should have known better :(

I'm hoping Pure will pipe in and maybe give me a definite answer :p

Some of the L081 on Planet Catfish have small spots too though, so I'm not quite sure.

Yeah, did you read my thread in freshwater gen disc? I originally got a Queen Arabesque but it looked washed out once I put it in my tank with the flourite, so I took it back and got this guy.

Man was that queen gorgeous though, I really wish I had eco-complete because she would have looked stunning!

Time to start saving up for a big tank, yup he's gonna get big. :D

Should have kept the L260. Hypancistrus tend to do what you saw when stressed.

Sexing them is next to imposible until they get to breeding size.

Ugh, I was afraid of that :( I think I'll just take it back now then, before I get attached to it. It's a real cutie though

The Queen wasn't dull or anything, it was a beautiful fish. It just didn't look good against the multi-colored brown flourite gravel. Maybe I'll get it back though, I just don't want to be a pain in the *** since I already swapped the queen for the nugget today.

What else is there that stays small and is relatively easy to keep? I don't care for the bristlenoses, and the only others I saw at the lfs were clown, king tiger and royal. I know royals get really big, but don't know much about the other two. Time to check out planet catfish again :D

By the pics on PC, the King Tigers look similar to the Queen Arabesque, only not as white. So if it was your decision, would you go with the King Tiger or the Clown?

BTW, do King Tigers eat driftwood? I don't really want a tank full of sawdust :)

King tiger=meat eater
King royal tiger= wood eater
*gets a headache*

Just wanted to clear up the common name issue. you are talking about L066 right?

If so they are meat eaters, they get quite a bit larger than the queens, and the patterning is much larger stripes. But yes they share a resemblance because they are both Hypancistrus.

My friend has a few clowns in his 90 gallon - but you'd never know it because you never see them.

I think you should get the Queen Arabesque back. :D

A few other smaller plecs I've come across in research:
Peruvian Panther L174
Yellow Spot L262
Chocolate Zebra L270
Leopard Frog L134
Rio Jari Zebra L316

I get the feeling a couple of those are on the rare and/or expensive side...

I think I should get the Queen back too, but I like this guy much better and he looks a lot better in my tank. How long will it take him to outgrow this tank, because I'm planning a 75 or 125 gallon discus tank in the next couple of years. Will he outgrow it by then?

I don't think I'll get the Queen back simply because I didn't like the way she looked in the tank, maybe I'll go with the King Tiger. I don't know for sure which King Tiger it is though, I'll have to find that out first.

A few..............mustard spot is the top one, I'm going to see if the lfs can order one for me tomorrow. I'm also considering peppermint, snowball, sultan or king tiger.

And I just saw a flash pleco, nice :)
