Labs spawned

My yellow labs have spawned. At least 5 fry have survived the first week, so I'm hopeful that most will make it (I'm not bothering to remove them, just letting nature take its course, I don't want _that _ many labs).

It was a very small female that was holding (barely 2") and it was her first spawn, so I doubt there were more than 10 fry or so to begin with.

Perhaps I'll get some baby-pics up in the next day or so.

Nah, stripping isn't a big deal. I just don't have tank space for that many fry. I figure if 3-4 survive I'll be fine.

I've acctually never bred Malawi's........how exactly do you strip a female for the babies?

Pull her out of the tank, hold her in a bucket of water (or right in the grow-out tank) and pry her mouth open with your fingernail.

The fry will probably swim out on their own, but you could swish her back and forth a bit to force them out.

Congrats Josh.
This is your first time stripping females? Do it once and it's second nature the next time. Just like riding a bike. I used to strip females all the time but now I just let them do it themselves
...we are still talking fish here I think
