Someone requested these in another thread but regardless I thought everyone might be interested in seeing. Here are some underwater photos of the eastern side of the lake showing some things that are not normally seen in photographs (plants and driftwood). the plants are hornwort and vallsneria, others probably exist but we didnt take photos.

here we have Minos Reef Mozambique around 50 feet deep. light does not penetrate very well here so the colours appear washed out. there is no shortage of fish in this lake and you can see the typical rocky biotope
this is in the exact same spot about 5 feet deep. (minos reef). you see the wonderful red zebras. it is possible to enjoy a trip to the lake and just snorkel.
here we see some fossorochromis rostatus females over a bed of hornwort in AFAIK about 15 feet of water, at chiofu.
Same spot same fish. notice the hornwort growing on the stump. I think these are the same fish they might be hemitilapia oxyrynchus.
Don't know what kind of fish - looks like a non-endemic tilapia, but this is at chiofu at the same spot. I will never forget this because on our second dive Jody and I came across what looked like a huge oreochromis male who was beaten up under these very same sticks. scared the heck out of us.
now what is unique about the last 3 photos is you see no rocks. and the water is not clear it is green and murkey. this is a side of lake malawi you never see in the books.
unfortunately those are all the underwater shots i have from the trip. Larry only gave me a few. next year I am taking a digital video camera and hope to record breeding of fishes in these biotopes above.
