Last November our colony had their first babies with both females producing fry at the same time.
While checking on the tank today, I noticed that all the fry were on one side of the tank with one of the females.
On closer examination, the other female was spotted herding a new batch of fry around one of the shells.

I am not sure if we are going to be selling any of the first batch off until after we get several breeding trios as well as unrelated stock to cross out with them.

I will keep you posted.

HEY! Congrats! Tanganyikans will always be my first "love" in the hobby and any of the shellies near the top of the list ;).

Sounds like you have quite the responsible breeding program planned. Good for you! IMO, more should be doing it that way.

One question, any idea what the differences are between these guys and L. meleagris? Are we talking minor pharyngeal bone differences (as an example) or something more substantial? Looks wise, they are almost identical. I'll go count dorsal spines/rays in some pic's and cross referance Fishbase. ;)

Wow awesome! Good to hear that the Guppy Man of Tennessee DOES have some real fish after all *poke* ;)

I agree Chris, I've got a deep love for anything Tanganyikan. I quit messing with them due to the cost of getting quality stock (I got burned real bad a few years ago), but with Dino just a few hours drive from me, I might get back into it once he decides to sell any. I just love shellies and sand sifters. *though I've yet to keep the latter but hope to one day*

Bah, only 1 of my 112 species are guppies.

Even though I have over 20 varieties of them.

Orion, you are on the short list of those who will have access to them first.

That's not to be confused with the short bus, BTW.

LOL Guppy Man, thats the first time i've heard that one. Hey i might have to get some of those guppies for the planted cube i'm slowly putting together. I keep discus and stony corals, yet i'm a little hesitant about getting a fish like guppies because if i somehow kill them it'd make me feel like i ride that short bus.

They sound almost similar to Multis in their prolific breeding for you Dino lol. Looks like a cool species of shell dweller.
