The large Red Severum we adapted last spring has had problems with external parasites for about a month now,she was housed in the 220g community tank and none of the other fish show any signs of parasites, We just pulled the Sev out of the community tank and put her into QT, In the process we made it a point to rub and sniff her and to our surprise she was slime free or at least undetectable by touch. A very very dry fish to say the least.

Has any one had a problem like this, what could or should be done to get the fish to start producing slime again.

Thanks in advance.

I've never had a problem like this, but I would consider putting in Stress Coat X, sold by API. It says it 'helps build slime coat'. Also you might want to put in some Aquarium Salt, which is a stress reducer and also helps repair the slime coat.

Thanks for the reply, I have done exactly what you suggested, I am hoping its not a permanent condition.

(added) Her appetite is very good, she ate in the QT tank.

We moved the severum back to the community tank this evening she looks much better and is definitely happier, she had a dose of clout while in QT plus the stress coat and salt, she had no Signs of parasites, so I did a water change in the 220 and added some epsom salt and stress coat, and tonight she ate like a sow, it looks likes she loves me again last night she didn't. thanks again for the help.
